This holiday was first created in 2008 by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow. The first celebration, however, wouldn’t take place until June 27, 2009. It has since been observed as a professional and public holiday with celebrations taking place all over Turkmenistan.

This holiday is observed with a variety of events all across Turkmenistan. Most of these celebrations include the arts, so people can expect to see fairs, workshops, art exhibitions, and theater performances. Turkmenistan is known for a number of different exciting applied arts. The most interesting are the Turkmen carpets, footwear, and headwear that can be seen being sold on the street. Other types of arts that can be found include metal embossing and/or chasing, ceramics, making jewelry, embroidery in gold and silk, leatherwork, and wood carving. Silk weaving is also a popular art form in the country and can be found at stalls and shops during this holiday.
